My journal entry about the Father's in our lives...

Hopefully this will replace my failing to get any of these 3 great guys a greeting card that says "we love you". We really do love you - it's just that at the grocery store my mind is more preoccupied with feeding Ashton fruit snacks so he'll stay in the cart and keeping Hannah's binky in her mouth.

This is what I wanted to post on David's birthday. It's his primary get to know you sheet from when he was 11. The first question says "Something I like about myself" and he wrote down "I am smart." I thought that was hilarious for some reason. He had his academic life figured out at an early age. Anyway, I don't have a cute video for him this year like last. But as a wife who is not even 6 weeks post partum let me tell you what a champ my husband is. We agreed that when #2 came along that he was in charge of Ashton when he was home. Diapers, waking up in the morning, entertaining etc... David has stuck by it. Amidst the very bad ending to his school year he has taken care of me and the kids so well. He takes Ashton on walks in the heat and even to the zoo. And even though he walks in the house tired from his day at school he doesn't mind fixing dinner for the bug or bringing me burp cloths or water or snacks while I nurse. He is a GREAT Dad. And even though I may not reproduce at the rate he claims he wants I never worry about having more kids because I know I have a partner who is probably better at this than I am.

Now on to our Dad's...
Here's David when he was about 3 with his Dad. Cute, huh?
I made the mistake of asking David one of his favorite memories of his Dad while he was trying to prepare his lesson for Priesthood. Needless to say he got VERY side tracked as he recounted many stories of late night video games, driving to get new sports cards for his collection, almost scaring him to death while playing laser tag, wrestling, healing him with his Mr. Miyagi hands etc. But when I asked him what his favorite "tender" moment was (hope I don't embarass you here Dad) he said that it was when he was 9 and got his tonsils out and had to stay an extra night in the hospital. He was sick and dehydrated and the nurses tried multiple times to find a vein to put an IV in and David was crying and finally his Dad told the nurses to stop and David saw that he was crying too. He never did get that IV and even though he was sick what he remembers most about that night was that his Dad was crying right there with him. David is a lot like his Dad and for that I am very grateful. When I met Scott I was very relieved to know that I was marrying a guy that had been raised by a great man. One line David says a lot when talking about raising kids is "I want to do _____ like my Dad did..."
And here's my Dad & I at a Daddy daughter date when I was 9. It was a western theme.
After I asked David about his favorite memories he asked me about my Dad. Before I could say anything he started say, "when he used to bite off big chunks of his apple for you, or when he was asleep on the couch and would say 'I'm just resting my eyes..." I added on how he would always lick off the top of our ice cream cones before he handed them to the back of the car at the drive through or how he'd always catch us right before we'd give him a snorkel. But my favorite tender moment of my Dad was when he and my mom were on their mission. I was sitting in the back with them and we were waiting for a baptism to start and the missionaries came out in a panic and said that they couldn't find any baptismal clothes to fit the bigger guy for his baptism. They finally found a pair of pants that he wore and my Dad went into the room and came back without his shirt on and his suit jacket buttoned up. That man got baptized in my Dad's shirt. Even though he looked silly and was making jokes all night about his lack of a shirt I kept thinking that's my Dad and I was so proud of him.
David & I are so blessed to have been raised by such great parents. Happy Father's Day Dads we love you both very much!

How we're passing the days...

David's birthday was Sunday and I had a great idea for a birthday post that I never got around to because we were hardly home this weekend. It was going to be better than the normal mushy I love my husband stuff too dangit. Luckily, Father's day is just around the corner so I'll save it.
I remember when we found out we were having a girl David said "now we'll each have a buddy". It was sweet that he wanted me to have my very own friend because Ashton is his little mini me. Anyway, this is what you can catch us doing these days with our "buddies".

Me lounging and enjoying my favorite part of the newborn stage. Nothing is better than a little one asleep on your chest.

And David keeping Ashton entertained.

Gotta love Fridays.

Bree and Emily came over and turned my living room into a makeshift photostudio. We had a blast. Bree got a ton of great pictures. Thank you for saving me a trip to Target or Sears for some newborn shots. Here are just a few...
