If I couldn't find time to sit down and blog about the coronavirus and the subsequent quarantine I would have zero excuses. It's been awhile since I've sat down just to write instead of posting pictures.
Here's the deal, for posterity's sake, I need to write this. I keep telling the kids, we are living through a moment in history of so many firsts and inevitably a time their kids will read about in history books (if text books still exist). We are on official orders to"shelter in place" with about half of the country. We're social distancing 6 feet away from individuals and basically stay at home except for essential trips to the store, pharmacy etc.
We've basically been doing this anyway for the last couple of weeks as things started to get bad. We were halfway through spring break (the week of March 9th) when things really started to get serious. Church was cancelled indefinitely along with all subsequent church activities. That in itself shakes up our little world as our weeks revolve around heading to the church twice a week. Schools all over the country started to plan for closures and we got official word on Friday the 13th that the kids weren't going back after spring break. We feel so blessed that we planned our big trip to Florida in February especially because all theme parks would close during spring break as well.
And just like that basically the entire country became homeschoolers. Teachers are sending home work digitally but we're all home all day every day. David's clinic was closed on the 16th and they are open only for emergency extractions because they are not allowed to use any hand pieces that could spread the virus.
When we are in our home enjoying this family time it is easy not to pay attention to what is actually going on in the world. However, the minute we leave the house evidence of change is all around us. Less cars on the road, stores closed, aisles at grocery stores completely empty of fresh meat and toilet paper. The economy has taken an enormous hit but so far this hasn't really rocked us personally.
We, like so many others, are obeying the shelter in place orders in hopes that we can stop this thing before it gets even worse. I am sure when my kids read this some day they can look up all the facts and figures about what this virus actually did to our country and the world. But for now I'm hoping to document what this time looked like for our crew on a personal level. What weeks of homeschool, homechurch and endless hours of time spent at home together looked like.
