Summer Days in Midway

Every year when David has his summer break we head up to my parents' place in Midway for a couple of weeks. It's paradise. Lots of card games, food, movies etc. The kids live outside and come in to eat occasionally. Needless to say we look forward to this time every year. This year we convinced Mandy and Jason to meet us up there for those couple of weeks and we even convinced them to stay up late to play Mario Bros on the wii with us. "Bubble! Bubble!"

The first few days it was cold and rainy but it didn't stop the kids. Ashton reminded me when he saw this picture that he climbed this tree all by himself. He actually did until he had to cross the branches in the middle.

When we were little my grandma used to take us to this pond off the golfcourse to feed the ducks. We took the kids this year. I got all teary thinking about how my kids will get to have the same Midway vacation memories that I have.

We went to the Hogle Zoo. I still love the Dallas Zoo more but I'm not about to brave the 100 degree heat so we took full advantage of going to the zoo in 75 degree weather.

Both of our flights were re-routed and delayed because of weather. So instead of our normal 2.5 hour flight we were on the plane for 6 hours on the way up and 5 hours on the way back.
Here's the gang on the way home - proof we made it back to Dallas with smiles on.
I've got to admit it was pretty depressing leaving Dallas when most days the high temp was 85 having two weeks in UT where the weather never got above 75 and coming home to 95 and 100 degree sticky heat. I told David I'm just going to call our electric bill maternity costs b/c it's too hot to try and scrimp and save this summer.
Hannah is now walking she started up in Midway just like Ashton did. Something about my parents' house and lots of kids running around just helps it to click for the kids. Thanks Mom and Dad - we had the best time. So did our bank account! We didn't make one withdrawl on it for the whole 2 weeks we were gone (if we don't count David and I's day date to the outlet mall). That definitely makes it the perfect vacation and makes us very spoiled! Let's hope we survive the next 3 weeks in this heat until we head up for the 4th.

I can't wait to see Hannah walking!!! I still refuse to see her as a toddler. She will forever be two days old in my mind. I wish I were related to you so we could take a vacation up there with you. It sounds like paradise! Selfishly, I'm glad you're home though!
