We got our list of possible PCS assignments over Thanksgiving break. Side note: I love using the crazy army acronyms it makes me feel very military. PCS means military move to your next duty station. Anyway, we had no idea what would be on the list and we just hoped Colorado or San Antonio would be on there. Turns out EVERYTHING was on there. Every place we could have ever imagined wanting to go in the Army was at our finger tips. Well, kind of. They place the dentists according to merit and rank. The list we got was specifically for the general dentists just like David without much time in service. So with 3 years in we assume he's probably near the top of that list.
So, we talked, google mapped, prayed, overanalyzed and prayed some more. It's unlike us to take this long to make a decision but we finally did (they allowed us 2.5 months to mull over the decision). We had to submit 10 places and I thought I'd document where we listed just for fun just like I did the first time we PCS'd into the military.
1. Fort Leavenworth (Kansas City)
2. Fort Carson (Colorado Springs)
3. Fort Sam Houston (San Antonio)
4. Fort Lewis (Washington State)
5. Hawaii
6. Monterrey, CA
7. Fort Belvoir (Washington DC)
8. Italy
9. Germany
10. Fort Lee (Virginia)
Originally we thought we'd put Colorado or Texas as our number one spot hands down. Kansas City wasn't even on our radar until our visit last November when we both had the impression, "We could live here." I didn't necessarily want to put it as number 1 when we had so many great options open especially because we've already done the Midwest. But when something feels right you just can't deny it. The dental clinic is small, the post is gorgeous, it's close to a temple and a major city. So after a lot of prayer we finally feel like we've got our list right. Who knows if we'll actually end up at Leavenworth but we're getting excited about it. We should find out Feb 18th where we'll be moving this summer. I'll keep you posted. First about the baby boy and then about the move!
