Softy turns 7

Scotty asks for so very little that when he asked if he could have his first real friend party we were happy to oblige. He has made friends to fast here in Idaho and had his little crew thrilled to spend a fun night with him. Also, this kid still loves donuts more than anything else. He handles being in the middle of all the girls like a champ and is hilarious!

And then there were seven...

The line "Here's my heart Lord take and seal it" from Come Thou Font of Every Blessing has been playing in my mind over and over again for the past couple of weeks. Sending a child on a mission is a whole new level of consecration I have never understood until I have been on the parental side.

Turns out being a return missionary myself doesn't make it any easier when it's time to say goodbye. Sending your own child off feels so unique and individual that you forget thousands of parents have done this before you and thousands will do it after me. When it's your own child it feels so sacred, so personal and so hard. We are so happy and excited for him but today was REALLY hard!

He's been using my old mission scriptures for home MTC. This morning he came upstairs and asked if he could take them with him. When you save stuff you always hope that somehow they'll be used to help your posterity. I loved those scriptures. Though I had no idea just 21 years later these scriptures would go right back to Buenos Aires.

All the kids before we headed out.
Everyone was pretty emotional the whole way to Provo. We went to chickfila for his last meal and saw several other missionaries getting ready to head into the MTC.

This will about rip your heart out. Seeing him teary and sad was the hardest part!
We knew he was going to be fine in just a matter of days but man saying goodbye was pretty rough.
This was it - we're so dang proud of that kid!
We all cried most of the way home from the MTC. I took this photo as proof that Mallie and Lucy did indeed cry even though they told Bug they probably wouldn't and that he shouldn't be offended about it.

Christmas 2025

On Christmas Eve we had our 3rd annual "Christmas Eve Day Lunch Brunch Recital Punch" with all the Ashton cousins. We play a bunch of games like pass the parcel, knock the candy canes off and most importantly Bingo with the Money Tree.
Every time I think of adding more furniture to this part of the basement I remind myself that all the crazy running games wouldn't be possible if we closed it up!
Everyone gathered for Bingo!
New jammies and the annual Christmas pic of the stairs on Christmas Eve. We ate yummy appetizers, watched Claymation Christmas, played Bingo, did sibling gifts and stayed up way too late!
I have almost zero pictures from Christmas day but this about sums it up. Mallie and Lucy spent several hours building their little mini shops. They loved these things. Also, one of my favorite parts was when we had Ashton open a box full of ties. Each sibling had picked out a tie and written their name on the inside. Now when they see him in mission pictures they'll be able to see what they sent with him. It was pretty special as we all remembered it'll be a few years before everyone is gathered again for Christmas!

Ashton turns 18

Jeffrey invited Ashton to PAX unplugged (a board game convention) while we were staying at their house for Fall Break. He hesitated because it would fall over Ashton's 18th birthday. Ashton's was elated and he told him there's nowhere else he'd rather be on his birthday. They went to Philly and Ashton and his cousins had the best time.

Jeffrey spoiled him and brought brownies and a candle. Ashton said they worked the board game booth and then the boys just walked around playing games, painting mini figures and hanging out. I cannot believe how old these three are!
On Ashton's birthday, Debbie sent me this picture. Holy smokes I love these kids and how close they are!

Thanksgiving

Jebbie floated the idea of a Thanksgiving up north in Nibley together for 2025 and we were all in! We arrived on Wednesday night and the older cousins played dozens of rounds of Secret Hitler. Poppy came up with hilarious phrases like "I am not a crook!" that everyone loved. It was the first time the older cousins had gathered together at their grandparent's house and we could not get the house quiet before midnight both nights. There were kids sleeping everywhere and they had the best time.

Here they are in the middle of a round of Secret Hitler.
I hopped up to take this picture during a game of psychiatrist.
Thanksgiving morning Trevin and Kim walked in the door. Right away I realized that Kim and I were matching and then I saw Trevin and died. I knew David was about to walk up the stairs in a green sweater. So funny!
Rachel and I made a quick escape to Macey's to grab something and after hearing about Macey's icecream cones for 4 years this was my first go. We documented the moment that was delicious and also killed my dream of opening up a Menchie's down the road from our house. Macey's would be right next door and I just don't think that would do after experiencing the .50 ice cream cones!

On Thanksgiving day all the kids and Dads went outside and played ultimate frisbee and football in perfect weather. It was a perfect weekend!!

Fall Break 2025

This was our second fall break at Jebbie's house in Elko New Market and it was just as magical. The kids play all day and the weather was perfect. We had giant bonfires every night and the kids would play ghost in the graveyard and infection. They really are the best hosts and our kids get along so well that each vacation with them feels dreamy!

Ashton’s Mission Call

Ashton’s mission call arrived just 9 days after the stake president hit submit. On September 22nd I got a text from him that said, “It’s here!!” And I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what was here ?!? We were shocked it came so quickly. Ashton had it planned that our employees Danica and Nikki would open his call on the computer at work, print it out, post-it note over the location and get it ready to open. David and I left the room when they pulled it up on the computer but we heard the scream from the other side. They wouldn't give us any hints but they promised us he would be thrilled.

I have to add my two cents before I get to the opening. The couple of weeks before the call came I started thinking a lot about how amazing it would be for Ashton to go to Argentina but I was afraid to say it out loud. But I started to really feel like it would be the perfect place for him. He would love the food, he already has 4 years of Spanish and he has heard about Argentina his whole life. So, we all guessed our locations that night I put my star right on Buenos Aires. He opened his call and I was shocked and not shocked at the same time.

Back to the opening... At 8pm our house started to really fill up. And then more and more teenagers kept arriving. Ashton told us he never felt more popular and loved then that night. He was glowing the entire night.

He's been looking forward to this day for his entire life.
I went in for the first hug and Hannah was right after. She loves this kid.
That's my star right there!
This was after some of the people had filtered out! Definitely a night to remember!
